"Strilka was founded because there are many Ukrainian singles throughout the world looking for other like-minded Ukrainian singles. My sister and I looked at the demographics and millions of Ukrainians in North America and around the world, the favourable market changes in Ukraine, and the population movements to and from Ukraine and Eastern Europe since 1991. Then we started searching for and examining Ukrainian-focused companies on the Internet. When it came to the social needs of Ukrainian singles, we could not find one single legitimate Web site that wasn't a marriage factory or drenched in sex,” said Strilka Co-founder, Natalia Nemyliwska.
"Big Web dating companies tend to skip ethnic/nationality niches because they treat the market as the customer. We decided to treat the customer as the market.”

According to Co-founder, Maria Koszarny, "We listened to our single Ukrainian friends in Ukraine, English and Ukrainian speaking Diaspora in the United States, Canada, Western Europe, Russian speaking Ukrainians, many new arrivals from Ukraine and we received direct input from them.”
